“Momffirmations” for Monday, December 18, 2023.
Hey Moms!
Welcome! If you’re new here, thanks so much for joining me. I’m a therapist-in-training and mom of two kiddos. “The Mom Diaries” is a place where I’m doing exploratory research to better understand what women’s experience of friendship in motherhood is like, and how friendship (or lack of) affects our mental health. If you’ve ever felt lonely, left out, or felt a sense of true belonging with other moms, and like to read and talk about what the implications of this might be, then you’re in the right place! I’ll be sharing intimate stories and anecdotes (both mine and others) that we can discuss and learn from.
I’d love to hear from you personally and get to know you better.
Last Night’s Nor’Easter
…..Here in New Jersey, we weathered a big storm last night with lots of rain and wind resulting in cracked, moldy branches strewn across the road this morning. I left a window in our bedroom cracked open overnight, and snuggled deeper under the covers as I listened to the rain blowing against our house. (I need to ask my husband to switch out the screens and put up the storm windows—they got soaked, sheesh.)
….Now, right before dinnertime, I’m looking out the window and the western sky is dramatic with a bright, whitish-blue sky overlayed with slate blue clouds, remnants of the rain. A cold, dry air has replaced the damp and mossy atmosphere. Rivers of water are still running into drains and at least one other mom told me at pick-up today that her basement flooded and she’s running a sump pump to drain it out.
I hope you’ll take a listen to today’s 3-minutes (or so) of “Momffirmations.” These are affirmations I record, and re-listen to, speaking the words aloud to myself. I often do this while driving, and I find it is great way to strengthen my confidence in myself, or to reframe my perspective if I need a reset in my day.
Speaking the words out loud helps me to connect with and care for myself, which in turn makes me a better support to others, like my family members and patients.
What do you think? I’d love to know how these affirmations landed for you.
“Momffirmations” for Monday, December 18, 2023.
Today is going to be a great day.
I have everything I need to succeed.
I trust that the right people will come into my life at the right time.
There is nothing I can't do when I have the help of my higher power.
I have special gifts to offer the world.
These are the three things I'm feeling grateful for right now.
I believe that everything happens for a reason.
I view my hardships as an opportunity to grow and transform and to build the life that I want for myself.
I am truly grateful for the people in my life.
Setting boundaries allows me to take care of myself.
Taking care of myself allows me to best take care of others.
I know that today is going to be awesome.
