Suburban Mom (aka 'swing voter') has feelings about far-right's hypocrisy...
...Why do far-right voters ask us to support free speech platforms like Telegram while taking away individual's choices to read books at the public library?
Hi guys. It’s been a minute. I haven’t written in several months because life got crazy and I had to prioritize stuff, and my blog on Substack, The Mom Diaries, fell of the list.
If you are still here with me, thank you so much. If you are a new reader who materialized during my dormant season, welcome!
At the top of my list remained things like: self-care, raising my daughters, time with the hubs, graduate school, and…infertility. Yep. A blog on the topic of my infertility journey is forthcoming. BUT…real quick, I wanted to share my thoughts on a couple of current events.
I would love your input and ideas, too.
…Here’s what I’m struggling with right now: why are far-right conservatives presenting hypocritical dualities, and do they notice what they’re doing?
I consider myself a moderate Democrat, which is to say, I lean socially progressive, I lean fiscally conservative, and I’m ultimately always willing to look at any issue from multiple angles and hear each side and really chew on it. I’ve voted for almost every party at one time or another. And I love compromise. Some people don’t like that about me. Oh well. I think it’s one of my strengths.
But here is the far-right political “pattern” that I’m genuinely perplexed by:
you have the leader of Telegram calling for freedom of speech (at the expense of criminal activity being allowed on the site)
you have the same people who are calling for freedom of speech for Telegram’s leader supporting book bans aka the passage of laws that ban books from free, public spaces (e.g. Florida’s ban on certain books being available in public libraries)
you have the same people also calling for less government in people’s personal lives yet passing laws that govern people’s personal choices, taking away a woman’s right to healthcare/abortion (I don’t like abortion. But at the end of the day, that’s an individual woman’s right to choose what to do with her body and her pregnancy)
SO yeah. I’m confused. Thank you,
-Kay (a confused ‘swing’ voter)

I empathize with your confusion! Great points.
